Listening to Gol TV from 12/20 and I there's an interesting bit about the Rapids and potential signing of Jared Borgetti last season ...
Phil Schoen: "... take a look at Jared Borgetti. This is a guy that scored more goals than anyone in Mexican Soccer history. But the charisma isn't quite there, the fan following isn't quite there. Something just doesn't seem to click with the idea of him being a marquee draw."
Julian Gonzalez: "I'm going to tell you something. I love Jared Borgetti, the all-time leading goal scorer in Mexican National Team history. A guy that has played in Bolton, has played in England, and has plenty of experience.
"From what I understand, he had the chance to be here, in the MLS, two years ago. I talked to some high ranking official within the Colorado Rapids that said, 'We had him wrapped up. The only problem was that management wanted a higher profile player with the team. But they didn't want to spend the money. They wanted to get some guy that could sell jerseys, but yet they didn't want to spend the money.

"I don't get it. I think there's something within the front office of the Colorado Rapids that's keeping it from advancing. Because if you want to sign sign a player that's going to sell jerseys, you're going to have to cough up some money. And Borgetti was a good opportunity because there are a lot of Mexicans that live in Colorado."
If you don't watch American Soccer - I highly recommend it. They don't hold their punches and give a lot of good news.
